ANIMAL EXPERIMENTAL UNIT (AEU)

Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya

The Animal Experimental Unit (AEU) was established in 2012 and is a 5-storey laboratory animal research facility of the Faculty of Medicine (FOM), University of Malaya. FOM also operates four satellite laboratories at the department of Biomedical Sciences, Parasitology, Pharmacology and Physiology. AEU and its satellite laboratories are AAALAC International accredited. AAALAC stands for the 'Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care'. AAALAC International is a private, non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs.

AEU participates voluntarily in AAALAC's program to demonstrate its commitment in achieving excellence in animal care and use, promoting advancement in quality laboratory animal research, while ensuring a balance between scientific rigor and integrity in animal experimentation, and complying with national laws that regulate animal research.
