ANIMAL EXPERIMENTAL UNIT (AEU)

Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya

The Animal Experimental Unit (AEU), established in 2012, is a five-storey laboratory animal research facility under the Faculty of Medicine (FOM), Universiti Malaya. In addition to AEU, FOM also operates three AAALAC International-accredited satellite laboratories located within the Departments of Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Physiology.

AEU and its satellite laboratories are accredited by AAALAC International—the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. AAALAC International is a private, non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and rigorous assessment programs.

By participating voluntarily in AAALAC’s accreditation program, AEU demonstrates its commitment to excellence in animal care and use, upholds high standards in laboratory animal research, and ensures compliance with national regulations governing animal experimentation. This reflects AEU’s dedication to maintaining a responsible balance between scientific integrity and animal welfare.
